The Mustangs took to the road for the 5th and final time of the regular season Friday night. Webster City proved a very difficult task for DCG as the very physical game was still in doubt heading into the final minutes.
DCG's offensive prowess was on full display providing explosive plays to go along with a punishing ground game. Junior Zach Brand led the way with 30 carries for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. Junior Ty Walker distributed passes to 6 different receivers going 10 for 16 with 201 yards passing and 4 touchdowns. Senior Isaac Boley hauled in 3 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown while Junior Caden Grimes caught 3 passes for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Cody Hall added a touchdown reception for the Mustang offense.
Black D faced off against the number 2 rushing offense in 3A and held the Lynx to 125 yards rushing on 47 carries, half their season average. 13 Mustangs recorded tackles with Senior Jayme Augusma leading the way with 8 tackles, 3 assists and 1 tackle for loss. Seniors Zac Needham, Jackson Joynt and Jacob Waldron each contributed 1 sack as the Mustangs had more sacks (3) than the Lynx completed passes (2). Junior Nic Lawton enjoyed the warm fall night by wrestling down 6 opponents including 2 assists, 2 tackles for loss and 1 interception.
The 7th ranked Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs (7-1, 4-0) will close out the regular season at home against Carroll (5-3, 4-0) Friday night October 25th. The game features the top two teams in 3A District 2 as the victor will not only receive an automatic bid to the playoffs, they will be crowned district Champions.
